How to talk to a teacher about your concerns

How to talk to a teacher about your concerns

A Short Talk With Prof. April

Yesterday, I paid a visit to Prof. April to discuss my paper which I submitted for her core seminar. Prof. April is a very nice and strict teacher, she ticked out lots of mistakes from my paper, which made me totally embarrassed.

At that time, it was totally hard for me to accept the fact, however, after quietly thinking, I made my decision to pay a visit to her office and discuss it with her. When we discussed the paper, I noticed that I myself really made a lot of mistakes. For one thing, my footnotes were not full, which were not suitable for the academic standands; for another thing, I didn’t use valuable evidences to support my ideas in each paragraph. Finally, I didn’t make paragraph break in the paper, which made it a little hard for her to catch my ideas.

Later, Prof. April pointed out my mistakes and explained them one by one to me, and told me how to write good papers. She listed several rules: firstly, I should write simple and clear sentences in order to help others to understand my ideas; secondly, I should follow the academic standards, if I was writing an academic paper; thirdly, I should make paragraph breaks, just in case my readers can get my core ideas immediately; lastly, I should make an idea in a paragraph firstly, then find an evidence to support it and interpret it with my own understanding.

It is not easy for anybody to admit their mistakes, nor is it hard for someone to refuse it. But take myself as an example, if you want to improve your English writing, you should follow the teachers’ instructions and advice. Only through this way, can you will be a much more excellent scholar in the near future.
