Mid-Term Exam Makeup

Make Up Mid-exam for Undergraduate Students

As a TA, I have to make up the test for the approaching mid-exam. My course is Family, Marriage and Sexuality History in Colonial America, in order to make undergraduate students to understand the true meaning of family and marriage in colonial America, I make this question for their possible essay questions:

For this option, you will write two letters. Pretend you are a young man or  woman in colonial New England who is about to get married. Write a letter to your distant cousin in New Netherland who is in the same situation.  In your letter, describe how you met your future spouse and what the courting process is like.

Also, describe what you expect from marriage and what your future plans are. In response, write a letter pretending to be the cousin from New Netherland. Describe the same issues as in the letter from New England.

Obviously, my question is to ask the undergraduate students to imagine themselves a young man or women, and you should write a letter to your cousin, and discuss how you met your spouse, how the counting process was held, and what’s your expectation for the marriage and your future. I don’t how the undergraduate students will answer these questions, but I do think they are good questions in deed.
