Angelina Jolie is no stranger to humanitarian ... As an ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) for refugees, she decided to devote himself to humanitarian causes while filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia. She discovers a country that is struggling to recover from the Khmer Rouge regime, and corruption sometimes prevents any attempt to rescue its people who are oppressed there. Thereafter she goes to Africa, where again she discovers the horror of the situation in some country plagued by civil wars. It was during this shoot she decides to adopt her first child, a small Khmer name (Rath Vibol). In an attempt to raise awareness about these issues, she decided to run in 2002, which finally produces this ambitious film. With the support of UNHCR so she turns this film which is not unlike her own life ...

In Beyond Borders she plays a young woman, Sarah Jennings from a rich American family, attending a charity gala to raise funds to support against the famine in Ethiopia. But the ceremony was soon interrupted by the intrusion of Nick Callahan, a doctor who runs a refugee camp in Ethiopia precisely. To the audience amazed, he presents the latter a ragged children dying of hunger, and recites a fierce advocate for Africa, while accusing the Western world to relieve his conscience by organizing galas for such money that can never end. Following the arrest of the doctor, the boy runs away and eventually die of cold in the Winter in London. It was enough to open the eyes of the young woman on the futility of her world. It therefore brings together all her savings to buy food and asks the UN where she works to help those who are indeed in need of help. On the spot she discovers the reality of the situation and certain truths that are never disclosed in the informational world. This is the starting point of a human adventure, where love will further complicate things.
Beyond Borders
This film has several parts, it takes place, therefore, first to Ethiopia, where she discovers the difficulty of the work of these fighters on famine. Forced to juggle with governments who are not very cooperative, the volunteers encouraged her to work with them together. There, men and women are lacking of everything ... drugs, money, food, struggling incessantly. People are often forced to abandon to their fate, while risking their own lives.
The film also takes us to Cambodia (homecoming because the actress is also a national Khmer) immersing ourselves in the heart of the violent Khmer Rouge regime, where they will do with government corruption and greed of revolutionary communists. The movie takes place then on fifteen years, covering three major conflicts of humanity, while sliding a few words on Central America and El Salvador.
Angelina Jolie in the film of Beyond Borders Directed by Martin Campbell
The film contains some scenes quite hard and sometimes shock rather to demonstrate the deleterious situations of these countries, which has been forgotten by everyone. Whether it's dying body infested with flies, riots a few bags of food operations without anesthesia, summary executions ... the film tackles head and sometimes evasive several problems including corruption, government inertia, while the NGOs are trying to save their people, land mines etc ... A film so shock that leaves no one indifferent.
A film that is certainly not perfect, but both actors Clive Owen and Angelina Jolie will deliver both a beautiful service. Two great roles for two talented actors for a film ultimately not very well known yet and deserves to be. During the filming of this movie, Angelina Jolie will meet with officials from the United Nations NGO, and convince the film's production to provide tents and sleeping gear to the largest camp in the region.
I can only advise you that even if in recent years films like The Constant Gardener, Hotel Rwanda, Blood Diamond or some episodes of ER were also more or less discussed topic, this one seems different, more involved, more thoughtful, and sincere especially given the involvement of the actress in terms of humanitarianism.
