Macys Visa Credit Card

Macys Visa Credit Card

Macys has a lot of credit cards, both Visa and store card versions. In this article, rather than introduce all of the Macys credit cards, I am going to tell you the differences between its credit cards and highlight its features.

So far as I know, Macy’s provide its customers these various cards below according to their levels of the Macys StarRewards Program:

•  Elite Star Rewards Membership – the Black card
•  Red Star Rewards Membership – the Red card
•  Gold Star Rewards Membership – the Gold card
•  Platinum Star Rewards Membership – the silver or platinum colored card

As you can see clearly from above, the lowest level is actually the gold level. With the gold card, you get to earn 1.5% rebates for every dollar, only when you spend at Macys and 1% for other regular non-Macy’s purchases. As for the other membership cards at Macy’s, you can earn 3% rebates on Macys purchases and 1% on other non-Macy purchases. It is good for you to have Macy’s credit cards, because they do not have annual fee. Once you have earned enough rebates, you will be given a “reward certificate,” which can be used for you to go shopping at Macys.

Macy’s Store Cards

Unlike Macy’s visa credit card, the Macy store cards can only be used at Macy’s. The store cards allow you to have exclusive savings and help you to save money as much as possible, only on the condition that you shop at Macy’s. Macy’s store cards are also popular among ladies who do not have good credits.

If you shop frequently at Macys, the Macys Credit Card will appeal to you, because you can earn 3 points for every dollar when you go shopping at Macys. However, you can only use the reward points you have earned for reward certificates at Macys. But if you are a real Macys fan, you can  consider this card only as long as you can earn points and be invited to special events and sales.

Macys Credit Card: My Experiences

As a loyal fan of Macys, I've had a Macy's Star Rewards credit card for at least 10 years since I opened my Macys credit card there. As far as I am concerned, Macy’s credit card is worth having if you use it right.

Macys Credit Card Advantages

First of all, there are some good advantages, such as follows:

•    Coupons that last for months
•    Variety of coupons
•    Special offers on products
•    Discounts on many purchases
•    Can pay bill on-line or at the store

Sometimes, I can get automatic discounts on items when I was purchasing with my Macy's card. Also, the coupons often give a flat percentage off, like 20%, on any item when you make a deal with Macys. It really helps me to save money and cut-down on my bill.

Macys Credit Card Disadvantage

However, Macys Credit Card is also has its own disadvantage. For one thing, it charges a high interest rate. Take myself as an example, my card is 24.50% interest! I always pay the bill in full, but if for some reason I could not I would be nailed by interest charges. That’s bad for me.

For another thing, I don't like is a trick they play on the billing statement. They will list the amount due as including interest charges since the day of purchase. In small print it will inform you the amount you have to pay, in case you can avoid the interest. However, if you don't read the statement carefully you probably overpay that month's bill.

Generally speaking, I think Macys Credit Card is good. I have never had a problem with my Macy's charge card, however, I have to keep an eye out for the billing statement and read it carefully, because I do not want to pay for the overdraft fee. But if you like, you can consider to apply for it. Good luck!
