I’ve been banking online for more than ten years and witness the rise of internet banking since the past ten years. In the past ten years, I have four bank cards that I do business with and two of the four are completely online, one of them is Virginia Commerce Bank.

Comparing with other commercial banks, one of the best things Virginia Commerce Bank has going for it is their interest rate of 4.25% with no fees, no minimum balance or service charges on their Savings Account. Besides Virginia Commerce Bank savings account, Virginia Commerce Bank also offers CDs, mortgages, home equity lines of credit and an investment account. I currently only participate in the savings account, however, I am going to consider to open a CD in the near future.

So far as I know, if you want to open an account with Virginia Commerce Bank, it is very easy. Take myself as an example, I filled out a short application, linked the new account to my existing checking account, agreed to their terms, and made a small deposit from my checking account into my new Virginia Commerce Bank Savings Account. Once the account was set up, Virginia Commerce Bank made two small deposits into my checking account for me to confirm. This step is a security measure they use to determine ownership of the linked checking account. After all, only I could know the amounts I deposited at Virginia Commerce Bank. I set up bimonthly transfers from my checking account to my saving account, just in order to accumulate money. I pay my property taxes Twice a year by using the money I have put aside into my Virginia Commerce Bank saving account. Since this is a savings rather than checking account, I must first transfer the money back into my checking account, however, with the help of Virginia Commerce Bank online banking, it only takes me several minutes to complete.
