Why Americans like to make comedies as charming as this one? They always have the gift to create works filled with charm, as well as freshness, innocence, pleasures and happiness in them. "You've got mail" is exactly the prototype of this kind of comedy. Well, it is funny that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are competing with each other for the survival of their bookstores.
You've Got Mail by Nora Ephron
Let’s return to the charming story of this film. Meg Ryan's character is a lady who is running a small children's bookstore that delights its customers by offering outdated and magical books. However, there is a huge bookstore opened in front of her bookstore, which is running by Tom Hanks, a smart businessman who is not pity for the small business companies. War is then declared between the two book-sellers! However, both of them do not know that they get along well with each other online.
Indeed, it is the advent of the Internet and new media that they could talk with each other online by sending emails without knowing who they really are in real life. This is not the love story, but finally, they become a couple and live together. Tom (I forget the name of his character) will soon discover that his mysterious correspondent is actually his sworn enemy and this discovery greatly surprises him ... until the lovely Happy End!
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan
The scenario is vaguely silly, but everything is really well put together until the end. I know that the character of Tom Hanks in the movie is so nice that he doesn’t spoil the game. Of course, Hanks is not the sexiest, but he at least has the gift to play well and is not looked down upon for his silly and honestly performance. However, I think Ben Affleck ruins the movie! Tom Hanks plays good, but comparing with the beautiful Meg Ryan, he is not so perfect in the film. Anyway, the movie is just perfect in the presence of an attractive and romantic city.
Generally speaking, it is very good. If you like comedy or romance, I recommend you to take a look at it.
